March 11, 2024 108: It's the Bread Story, with guest, Krista Goguen

When Krista Goguen's son was diagnosed with a virus that causes warts, he was merely an infant. Krista, having a degree in nursing, immediately began researching what to do. This is when she was first introduced to REAL BREAD, and once she began eating real bread, herself, within just a very short time, she notices a drastic change in her nursing child's body. The warts began to disappear - never to return. Being too young to eat solid foods, her son was able to get the nutrients that he needed in order to clear his skin, through his mother's breast milk.  Sue ends this episode with Proverbs 31:27, "She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness." She reiterates what we have heard her say before, which is "the woman described in Proverbs 31 does not allow her activities to burn her out. But instead, leans forward, peers into the distance and considers what future blessing or consequences are out there from today's activities." There is such a diversity in the world of grains that one should never get bored with the varieties available. Sue Becker focuses on one that is sometimes a less popular grain of choice by many - Rye. Rye is unique, versatile, and very nutritious. It is most popular in many areas of the world with harsh weather conditions, due to its ability to grow in extremely cold climates. It can also be considered superior when looking for weight-loss alternatives. If Rye is not suitable to your taste, Sue also gives alternate uses for Rye, other than just as bread. December 11, 2023 95: A Little Flower Power - Buckwheat - Replay

Sue Becker reintroduces a little seed that we will want to include in our whole grains and whole foods menu - Buckwheat.  Buckwheat can be used in similar ways to grains. It can be milled into flour, boiled whole, and even enjoyed raw to add a little crunch to salads or granola. In addition, Buckwheat flour is also an excellent choice for making pancakes, muffins, and crepes. Crepes made with buckwheat flour are less delicate, and this allows them to work very well when used as wraps and tortillas. October 30, 2023 89: Sue's Favorite Fats for Baking

Last week, Sue Becker shared that Extra Virgin Olive Oil is her oil of choice for most of her bread baking, such as yeast bread and most quick breads. Today, she shares her favorite solid fats that she uses in baking pastries, that includes cakes, cookies, brownies, biscuits, and pie dough. In most bread baking, fats provide tenderness, moisture, and color, as well as, flavor to breads. The type of fat used in a recipe, along with the method for incorporating it into the other ingredients, will influence both the texture and flavor of the finished product. October 23, 2023 88: Sue's Oil of Choice - Replay

Sue Becker shares her oil of choice for cooking and baking. For most of her bread baking - bread, muffins, pancakes, coffee cakes and other quick breads - she uses Extra Virgin Olive oil. In 1991, when Sue first began making all of her bread from freshly milled flour, she used the popular vegetable oils sold in the store. Unfortunately at the time, she did not know better and now only uses Extra Virgin Olive Oil for all of her cooking and baking needs. Sue also conveys how not all olive oil is the same and the reasons why. She delivers what to look for when purchasing olive oil and points toward brands that are best suitable for consumption. October 16, 2023 87: It's the Bread Story, with guest, Sara Valentine - Re-Release

Over the past few months, Sue Becker has found herself sharing more than any other episode, Sara Valentine's It's the Bread Story. Many who may feel or who have been told, that they have a gluten sensitivity or gluten allergy are surprised to find that they, too, are able to eat bread made from freshly-ground flour. Sara Valentine has struggled severely with her health since she was a very young child. Finally, at age 19, she received a few answers and remedies that helped her get through the next decade. One of these "remedies" included adopting a completely gluten-free diet. Although her symptoms diminished with this new diet, and Sara felt better, it wasn't until she was introduced to freshly-milled grain that she finally found the healing that her body was really craving. With extreme hesitancy and caution, Sara tried homemade bread made from freshly-milled grain, and to her complete surprise, she was able to digest this bread with no negative symptoms at all. Since that day, Sarah has been eating bread made from freshly-milled grain every day and has never felt better! September 25, 2023 84: It's the Bread Story, with guest, Becca Pouliot

Sue Becker met Becca Pouliot during her recent visit to a women's conference, hosted by Calvary Chapel, in Chattanooga, TN. From miscarriages and infertility to Tonsillitis and Bronchitis, Becca and her family's health was rapidly declining. This led her to try every other diet widely known by the social masses. However, shortly after adding REAL BREAD to their diet, Becca's family began to heal in more ways than she could have ever expected or imagined. September 18, 2023 83: Detoxing with Real Bread

Every-now-and-again, Sue Becker gets asked questions regarding adverse reactions when adding real bread and freshly milled whole grains to a diet. Some of these more common reactions include, but are not limited to increased bowel movements, increased gas and discomfort, nausea, and cramping. These questions have pushed Sue to do even more research, which has lead her to understand that real bread may actually play a bigger, more significant, role than she had ever imagined, in the realm of naturally detoxifying our bodies. When Sue Becker speaks about whole-grains, she is including all foods that are the seed of the plant as well as the fruit of the plant, which of course, would include both grains and beans. Beans are one of the most versatile and commonly eaten foods throughout the world. In fact for many people groups, beans and rice are a staple food if not one of the only foods readily available for them. Dry beans are also seeds that are considered a very nutrient rich food. Beans are a truly nutrient dense food group and contain only a moderate amount of calories. February 27, 2023 54: A Little Flower-Power - Buckwheat

In this episode of Sue's Healthy Minutes, Sue Becker introduces us to another little seed that we will want to include in our whole foods menu - Buckwheat. But, in spite of its name, buckwheat is not related to wheat at all, nor is it even a grain. Buckwheat, however, can be used in similar ways to grains. It can be milled into flour, boiled whole and eaten, and even enjoyed raw to add a little crunch to salads or granola. Buckwheat flour is also an excellent choice for making pancakes, muffins, and crepes. Crepes made with buckwheat flour are less delicate, and this allows them to work very well when used as wraps and tortillas. Sue Becker shares about food cravings and gluttony. She answers the question of why we might have food cravings and then gives great ideas on how to satisfy them. September 26, 2022 33: The Way to Captivity

Many years ago, Sue Becker had the wonderful privilege of ministering at a women’s shelter in downtown Atlanta. Even though this event encouraged her in many ways spiritually, it also lead her to question her calling for sharing the goodness that freshly-milled grain has on our physical bodies. As she prayed for God to confirm the new calling she felt on her life, He actually surprised her by showing that she was already doing exactly what he was desiring for her and what He had already called her to do. It just looked a little different than what she had in mind. This is the moment when Sue finally realized that sharing her knowledge about freshly-milled whole grains - and eating real bread - fits exactly with what she was feeling that God was telling her, after all. So, in this episode, Sue revisits the history of white flour and shares the alarming and oh-so-familiar effects our bodies can experience, by simply sifting away the bran and germ. September 19, 2022 32: Hope for the Heart

Sue Becker will never forget the very first It's the Bread story that she received regarding an amazing real bread testimony. It was that very story that lead her to a more in-depth study of the nutritional benefits of real whole grains and real bread. That early morning call came with an excited customer who had been working for years, with no luck, to lower her high cholesterol levels. However, with only one month of eating real bread - made from freshly-milled grain - her cholesterol level had already dropped 85 points! Sue began to wonder, "What nutrients could be in this real bread that could make such a drastic change in such a short amount of time?' And thus, her passion for studying began, where she soon learned another benefit that the freshly-milled grain has on our health and, more importantly, our heart. Because of this, we have had so many questions about how to get started, so this week, we thought we would be nice to include a little information about how you can get started with your very own journey of milling wheat and making bread as well! Today, Sue talks about grain mills, different types of grain, sweeteners, and more. The items that she discusses can be found on our website and in our store. July 11, 2022 22: A Day at Oliver Farm, with Clay and Valerie Oliver

We took a road trip to Oliver Farm, down in Pitts, GA - where we were able to visit their sunflower fields and “oil shack” - as they call it. It was amazing to see all of the beautiful sunflowers that were in full bloom and to also see how Clay and his wife, Valerie, make all of their amazing oils. Oliver Farm was formed several years ago when fuel prices soared and the American economy faltered. There was a lot of talk about alternative fuel sources, and that sparked an interest in an area that Clay knew very little about; however, he began researching, visiting oil plants, and talking to individuals in this field. During this time Clay discovered the cold pressed method of oil extraction which does not use chemicals or high temperatures to remove the oil. This process leaves valuable vitamins and nutrients in the oil. In 2012, Clay grew his first crop of sunflowers for oil production, and by the end of 2012, he had pressed oil from sunflowers, pecans, and peanuts - all grown in Wilcox County, GA. More oils followed, and Oliver Farm Artisan Oils quickly caught the attention of chefs and foodies. Now, Oliver Farm Artisan Oils are used and sold all over various locations, including The Bread Beckers, Inc., in Woodstock, GA. Today’s episode is going to be a little different and longer than normal. As a podcast, this episode is presented as an audio recording of our trip. In addition, we have also released a video recording of our trip as well! Watch this video over on our YouTube Channel. There, you’ll get to see the sunflower fields and the actual process that Oliver Farm uses for making all of the delicious oils that they sell. Once there, remember to hit the subscribe button and smash that bell icon, to be notified every time a new video drops. For more information visit breadbeckers.com. July 4, 2022 21: Sue's Summer Super Energy Shake

Sue Becker continues with her love for summer by sharing that one of her favorite items during the summer is a cold, refreshing smoothie. As stated in a previous episode, these smoothies can be either yogurt or Kiefer-based and blended with some frozen fruit and sweetened with a bit of honey - making these smoothies a perfect combination of whole-grain fiber, with a healthy dose of good gut organisms. However, years ago, Sue was introduced to another kind of smoothie, and today, she shares this goodness with all of us. She also talks about the benefits of each of these ingredients, which include: Maca, Lacuma, and Raw Cacao. Although, this smoothie is more of a shake than it is a smoothie, it contains a lot of the nutrients that our bodies need and crave, and Sue is confident that you will love it too!
